Deebing Creek Index
An index to Correspondence relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 1894-1915 – Deebing Creek is available at the Queensland State Archives web site.
It is described as follows
"This index was created from Series ID 4354, Miscellaneous Items and Correspondence, specifically Item ID 716219, Papers, 1894-1905 and Item ID 716261, Papers, 1906-1915 which relate to Deebing Creek and Purga Missions. Only the Deebing Creek files have been indexed. The index was created by staff from the Communities and Personal Histories Unit, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services, Department of Communities."
Aboriginal War Census returns 1915-1916
The index to the Aboriginal War Census returns 1915-1916 is now available at the Queensland State Archives web site. This series is described as follows
"A census of the Australian population was conducted during the First World War. The Chief Protector of Aboriginals wrote to each district officer under his control requesting a census of the Aboriginal population in accordance with the national census requirements. Lists of Aboriginal people living at various settlements to be used for war census purposes resulted. Many district officers not only listed all men aged from 18 to 45 years for war purposes, but also included all women and children and residents of other ethnic backgrounds such as South Sea Islanders and Rotumans.
Entries in the index are linked to the original registers namely Series ID 4354, Miscellaneous Items and Correspondence, specifically Item ID 716223, Papers, 1915-1916.

Boonthamurra People and the Federal Court of Australia
The Federal Court of Australia case Wallace on behalf of the Boonthamurra People v State of Queensland [2014] FCA 901 makes fascinating reading. Albert Twist, Janet Twist, Hector Twist, Olive Twist and Ruby Teare were removed from Clermont to Woorabinda in 1936
Sharper Woodhouse, Bessie Woodhouse, Nimrod, Bostock, Louie and Trooper were removed from Cloncurry to Palm Island in 1931
Sharper Woodhouse as born in 1886 Normanton and father was Johnnie. He married Bessie in 1927 at Canobie Station. Bessie died at Palm Island in 1932. Bessie was also known as Bessie Ah Fat.
Jimmy Larry aged 35 years in 1917 appears in the Bowen Police Watchhouse Charge Books. His ife was Norah.
Dick Hegarty or Dick No.2 died on 24 August 1932 at the Collinsville Hospital. His daughters are
Eliza Iffley, the wife of Tommy Iffley, and Kate who is presently under agreement at Suttor Creek Station. Dick's wife is Lizzie. Dick was born at Avon Downs Station and took his name from the then owner.
Elsie New Island died at Bowen in 1936.
Sophie Skeen and her unnamed child died at Palm Island in 1926.
Dolly Tarpot died at Clermont in 1931.

2. The Mitchell Police Letterbooks have an entry dated 6. 9.1920 as follows - Police Tracker Sandy discharged. A suitable replacement is Hector Watson who is about 30 years old and has recently been employed at Forest Vale. He is a native of Warrego. He has a H/C gin named Annie, recently employed at Forest Vale. Annie has a H/C boy aged 10 years.
3. Minnema an old woman, Willie Colonel an old man and Jessie and Pansy Colonel were removed from Bogarella to Cherbourg in 1931.

"From February 2014 our RecordSearch system allows you to view and download high resolution searchable PDFs for newly digitised records. On records where this is available the PDF icon and link will display.
The digital images have been scanned using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to create an invisible text layer of recognised characters and allows the content of the record to be searchable within a PDF reader (eg. Adobe Reader and select Ctrl + F). The accuracy of the OCR text depends on many factors including scanned resolution, typed versus handwritten, artefacts, condition and language. For example, records that are typed will have a higher accuracy than handwritten.
The PDFs have been secured and are unable to be modified. They can be printed or saved to your computer for offline viewing. To view the PDFs please make sure you have a PDF reader installed.
When ordering records, a PDF will be generated as part of the normal digitisation process with your printed copy and/or online digital images. It will be available to download online.
