Google Custom Site Search Discontinued

Google will be turning its Google Custom Site Search off for this site on July 13, 2017. It has already been disconnected from most of the sites that have used it.  The current software will automatically default to Google's free Custom Search Engine product, which sadly comes with unwanted advertisements.

I have had a quick look at a replacement but the costs seem exorbitant so I will just have to see how the Google's free replacement goes. Google Site Search  required a block of code to be placed in each web page. I assume other search software providers require the same. As I have about 1000 pages this is a daunting task.

I would be grateful for any comments or suggestions anyone has.

  1. Hello - your site can be searched using google search google.com by using the string "site:cifhs.com" for example, if you wish to search for basedow in south australia the search string starts as follows>> site:cifhs.com "south australia" basedow - If you want to search for census at Tennant Creek the search as follows>> site:cifhs.com "tennant creek" census - or searching for a tracker by the name of Billy from Betoota, then google search string can be as follows>> site:cifhs.com tracker billy betoota -- So long as users start their google search using google with site:cifhs.com , then placing specific words after it will refine and produce the results the same as custom site search - the only difference is users needing to place the string site:cifhs.com as the prefix to the words|locations|articles they are looking for. Hope it helps. Ron

  2. Users can click this link https://www.google.com.au/search?q=site%3Acifhs.com and then simply add their search words after the site:cifhs.com now seen in the search line. Note# users must leave a space between site:cifhs.com and their search words. Give it a try . Cheers Ron
