The proposed Githabul application area is wholly within Queensland and falls within the Upper Condamine River Catchment area, extending in the south from the Queensland / New South Wales border, north almost to Clifton, in the East from the Great Dividing Range and to the Herries Range in the West. The application area includes the towns of Warwick, Allora and Killarney. The area proposed to be claimed in the Githabul People Application is adjacent to the Githabul determination area in NSW.

      Just to add to this list Paul- thanks for posting.
      My great grandparents are Bob and Dorothy (Williams) Webb. They are shown in the Tindale genealogies as having 5 living children. These are:
      Robert (called Rube); Gertie, Eddie, Peter (my grandfather) and Esther.
      Grandfather Webb and Uncle Rube were given land as you left Casino on the Lismore road. Aunty Esther and Aunty Gertie worked to raise the money for the house. This was the Webb family home until recently. My grandfather Peter Webb was stationed in Newcase in WWII where he met my grandmother Beryl Russell (Worimi woman). They settled in Waterloo in Sydney.     Thank you Paul. I'll have to do a bit more hunting.

    Do you know the name of an ascendant (grandmother or great-grandmother) of Robert Williams (married to Gloria) who an Anthropologist wrote about in the NSW Githabul claim (who lived in Yangan Qld before living in Woodenbong NSW)?

    Robert told me (a few years ago) about this Anthropologist's work. I haven't been successful in identifying it and locating a copy.

    Be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

      Unfortunately Bill I dont have any more information about Robert Williams.

      The Federal Court decision "Trevor Close on behalf of the Githabul People v Minister for Lands [2007] FCA 1847" doesnt mention any anthropologists involved in the case.

      I came across the following in Unsettling Anthropology the Demands of Native Title on Worn Concepts and Changing Lives edited by Toni Bauman and Gaynor Macdonald published in 2011 by AIATSIS.
      "In the Githabul claim in northern New South Wales, anthropologist Ray Wood reported some claimants asserting incompatibility between personal totemic connections to sites on the land and a Christian worldview..."

    Thank you, Paul. I haven't checked your Federal Court link but it was a consent Order so I haven't found much previously when I've sniffed down that path. I'll have a look at the Unsettling Anthropology then I'll make contact with Qld Sth Native Title Services. Thanks again.
