  1. Was it Henry Arthur Yates? or Harry Arthur Yates? Was Betsy Yates originally Betsy Neil or Neal? otherwise known as old Bett from the Colless Farm?

    1. It was Harry Yates but Betsy was Neil. Betsy's daughter died in childbirth and Betsy took her children and moved in with Harry Yates and raised her Grandchildren some of whom took the name Yates and some Neil.

    4. Rani, would like to be in contact. We have just discovered that Elizabeth Betsy Larkins is the daughter of our g. g. grandfather, James Larkins and a woman of Aboriginal descent. James, it seems was working or at a mission in the Pilliga area. We know a bit about James and his family, who came from Sussex as a boy, an immigrant. And then we know his life from when he marries Mary Jane Green in Wee Waa. We know very little about Mary Jane Green. She had 6 children, died young and is buried in Brewarrina cemetery. Please contact me if you get this. cheryla1@tpg.com.au

  4. I might be able to help, I'm from the Gomeroi and Wayilwan tribes. Identity to me is more precious than gold. I was once a troubled child, parents divorced and I got up to no good and the rest of it. Then my dad took me around to all the sites and places of where we come from. From then on I found out who I really was, it changed my whole outlook on life. There is nothing better than knowing where you come from and where you ultimately belong.

Only too happy to help out.

    Cheers
    PT.

    4. Annie was not the wife of Arthur Loder. There were three Trindall Brothers who had Aboriginal partners, Reginald Daniel Trindall was the only Trindall brother to marry his wife, Mary Jane (Molly) Leonard. Thomas Reid and Frederick Reid were brothers. Is there proof that Thomas Reid was the tribal husband of Jeanie ?

    5. My great grandfather was Bob Trindall who married Nellie Reid (great grandmother) Connected to Thomas Reid. After Nellie passed my great grandfather then married Agnus Towns another Gomeroi woman from the Pilliga/Cuttabri area. Would like to know more.

    6. Great Grand Father Bob Trindall never married Aggie Towns and Aggie was not a Gomeroi Woman. I thought you would have had that information in your research. Annie had brothers and sisters and I know their names. I needed to confirm and put the question out there on a Gomeroi Facebook Site, and no one could assist. However I did eventually verify from documents.

I have digital copies of his Enlistment Form where someone has penned across his surname, making it “Read” instead of “Reid”. In his own hand writing Albert spelt his name with an ‘i’ (Reid). I'm tracing my Neil line. My Great Grandfather was Walter Ernest Neil born at Come By Station 1880. Maybe his mother/wife/sister is Betsy Neil who ended up combining children with Henry Arthur Yates. There's a William Neil in the mix who may have been Walters Dad & Betsy's ex husband? Walter moved to Balgownie where he married Henrietta Charlotte Summers. Any connection to relatives of Walter would be awesome. Thanks Rani

Subject: [AUS-Koori] RE Looking for a little HELP please

      Hello Listers,
Can Some kind soul help me with the above names:

Mary Anne TIDSWELL m Thomas BRINDLEY 1852 place unknown in NSW
they had one son Richard J, b 1853, Father Thomas died 1858
      Mary Anne TIDSWELL m
Alexander DINGWELL 1859 Coonamble [his father died Merri Merri Creek 26.2.1869][ Mother Christina McPHAIL]
      they had three children:
Isobella b Dubbo 1862 m Thomas BLACKLOCK at Coonamble 1880
Emma b Dubbo 1864 m Henry WILLIAMS at Coonamble 1880
      Alexander b 1868 Coonabarabran

Isobella & Thomas BLACKLOCK are on the 1881 census living in Happy Corner
Coonabarabran they area listed having 4 HC males and 5 HC Females in the
household. I can only assume HC stands for Half Castes.
I have photos of my great grandmother [their daughter Mary Ann Emma Jane
BLACKLOCK] b Coonabarabran 1887. Its clear that she is part
Aboriginal. I was told Happy Corner was very much an aboriginal area at
this time. Can any one confirm this?
Mary Ann Emma Jane BLACKLOCK m Francis John TRIBE 1911
      Warialda/Coonamble.

Their children in order of birth:
      Joseph Alexander b 1881 Walgett m Lucy BATES Boggarbri d Coonabarabran 1944
James Thomas b 1884 Coonamble m Grace KEITH 1915 Sydney
Mary Ann Emma Jane BLACKLOCK m Francis John TRIBE 1911 Warialda/Coonamble.
      Alice M 1890 Coonabarabran m Norman T H MILSON
      Charles W b 1893 Coonabarabran died Glen Innes 1931
      Daisy B b 1897 Coonabarabran m Narrabri George A RUTTLEY
Arthur Hector b 1905 [he had red hair] m 1926 Eva Georgina ROSS

What I want to know is, Do I believe the census, were they both HC or
was, one of them was part aboriginal, I can't find any record of birth
of either Alexander or Mary Anne TIDSWELL.

Is this ring any bells for anybody, PLEASE HELP.
Any advice on where to look, would be great. Also these people must have
had family. Any cousin out there? I would love to know from what tribe they came,
the language etc.. I don't know how to go about finding out!

Also if you are connected with my family I have photos and other
information [on other members] I'm happy to share.

      TIA Karen

Alexander DINGWELL was probably born circa 1830-1840.

As far as “other” deaths of Alexander DINGWELL up to 1925 there is only one other in NSW. He died at Annandale in Sydney in 1902. How he fits into the picture is unknown.
DINGWELL ALEXANDER 12609 1902 ALEXANDER MCPHALL ANNANDALE NSW

There is the possibility that our Alexander DINGWELL was a convict, because there was one by the name of Alexander DINGWALL who arrived into NSW in 1837.
Alexander DINGWALL convict was born in Aberdeenshire SCOTLAND circa 1816. He was 20 years old when sentenced in April 1836. He came out to the colony in 1837 aboard the convict transport ship Norfolk. The Norfolk departed from Spithead, Portsmouth, Hampshire ENGLAND on the 27th October 1836 and arrived at Port Jackson NSW on the 12th February 1837. He worked in the Mudgee district until he obtained his Ticket of Leave in 1843 and his Passport on 24th November 1844.
Mudgee is 60 km East of Wellington. Seeing that Mudgee is not far from Wellington. The convict Alexander DINGWALL that came out on the Norfolk in 1837 would have been about 42 years old and fairly close to the Wellington region where Mary Anne TIDSWELL was married in 1859.

  58. Hi my mother was taken at birth, and her father was adopted into a white family very young. His birth mother is Joyce Elizabeth Weakley (nee Smith (1922-1969)) who was married to Albert William David Weakley (1919-1996). Joyce and Albert lived in Gunnedah, on Warrabungle St and had several children but Joyce had a secret child, my grandfather, Neville John Weakley (born 1949 (changed to John Neville Wiencke through adoption )), he has no birth certificate and he was born in Sydney. The father to my grandfather (great grandfather is a Blakfulla but his identity was always kept a secret.

So I'm coming on here to see if anyone might be able to join any dots with this information... I have been told that we are Gamilaraay just based on how we look physically, and my commenting here has nothing to do with native title claims. I want to know where we come from and have been searching ever since I was little.

  59. Hi my mother was taken at birth and my grandfather adopted into a white family at a young age. My great grandmother was named Joyce Elizabeth Weakley (nee Smith (1922-1969)) and married to Albert William David Weakley (1919-1996). Together they lived in Gunnedah, on Warrabungle St at one point. They had several children together, however Joyce had a secret child, my grandfather who she gave birth to in Sydney. Neville John Weakley in 1949 (changed to John Neville Wiencke at adoption). His father, my great grandfather, was a Blak man. His identity was kept a secret and my grandfather doesn't have a birth certificate.

I'm posting here to see if anyone who reads this might know any information or would be able to join any of these dots. I have been told that we are Gamilaraay mob from how we look, and spiritual connections, however we haven't been able to trace our bloodline without knowing who my great grandfather is.

I'm not interested in any native title claims, I only want to know where we come from and connect to family who I have been searching for since I was little.
